Taylor SolidBody Electric Guitars

One of Taylor’s most popular ranges is the SolidBody series. The SolidBody series includes features such as an advanced bridge and proprietary pickups, along with an attractive and distinctive design. This Taylor SolidBody review will go through the various models that are available at the moment to hopefully give you a better idea of which is the right type for your playing style and budget. It’s important to remember that if you’re buying a new Taylor Solid Body guitar then you have a variety of options in color, bridge and pickup configuration.

An example of one of the most interesting features of the Taylor SolidBody electric guitar series are the solder less loaded pickguards, which allow you to change the pickups and pickguard of the guitar relatively easily. This means you can change the sound and feel of the guitar whenever you wish.

Taylor SolidBody Classic Single

The Taylor SolidBody classic single electric guitar is available in a variety of different colors including white, lava red, viper blue, black and tobacco sunburst. It has an Alder body with a maple neck, along with a 22 fret design. The fretboard is made out of rosewood. Second hand Taylor SolidBody classic single electric guitars can often be found on auction websites – just make sure you check the condition of the instrument before you buy.

Taylor SolidBody Classic Double

The Taylor SolidBody classic double electric guitar is also available in a range of colors including Magenta Pearl and Natural. It has a mahogany body and Sapele neck – with a gloss finish – as well as an ebony fretboard and 22 frets. The Taylor SolidBody classic double is designed with a double cutaway.

Taylor SolidBody Standard Single

The Taylor SolidBody Standard Single electric guitar comes with a quilted maple and aged cherry sunburst finish, mahogany body and a sapele neck. Like the other guitars in the Taylor SolidBody series, the Standard Single has 22 frets. The guitar comes with a volume and tone control. The Taylor SolidBody Standard Double is similar in design but is built with a double cutaway rather than a single. If you wish to buy Taylor SolidBody electric guitars then it’s usually a good idea to try out the models with single and double cutaways first to get a feel for which is your favorite.

Gibson SG Standard Review

Another of Gibson’s most popular guitars is the Gibson SG Standard. It has a lightweight solid mahogany neck and body, along with an attractive cut away design. This design isn’t just for show, however, as it allows easy access to higher frets. It also comes with a Tune O Matic bridge and two humbucker pickups. In this Gibson SG Standard review I’ll talk a bit about the history of the guitar – including which famous guitarists use it – before moving onto its features and specifications in more detail.

The Gibson SG Standard electric guitar was first made available back in 1961. The SG, which stands for Solid Guitar, was completely different to any other electric guitar that the world had seen. This led to it being used by a number of famous guitarists such as Buddy Holly and Eric Clapton. Other guitarists to play the Gibson SG Standard include Rod Price, The Edge and Gary Rossington.

The Gibson SG Standard is available with two different finishes. If you want the classic look then the Gibson SG Standard heritage cherry is the best option. For a modern design go for the Gibson SG Standard Ebony Black. There is also a left handed version of the SG.

Gibson SG Standard Features

  • The body of the Gibson SG Standard guitar is made with beveled edges. This helps to make the guitar more comfortable to play, and also gives the SG Standard its distinctive look. Ebony Black and Heritage Cherry finishes are available.
  • The Gibson SG Standard comes with two humbucking pickups – specifically the 490R and 498T. Both are updated versions of the PAF humbucker made famous in the 50s. The guitar comes with a four knob, three way switch controls system.
  • The neck of the Gibson SG Standard is made using solid mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard.
  • Other features include the Gibson Tune-O-Matic bridge, vintage style tuners and angled headstock to improve resonance.

The Gibson SG Standard is an attractive guitar with a great sound, making it a popular model amongst many guitarists. Second hand Gibson SG Standard guitars often provide the best deals, as long as you make sure you know the exact condition of the instrument before you buy.
